Semedo started his professional career with F.C. Barreirense, but soon moved to the lower leagues, with C.F. Benfica and Odivelas FC.
After stellar performances with Odivelas, in the third level (18 goals in 30 matches in 2007–08), Semedo attracted attention from top division clubs, eventually joining Rio Ave FC. In his first match in the competition, on 24 August 2008, he scored in a 1–1 home draw against S.L. Benfica.
In January 2009, Semedo moved to Cyprus, teaming up with several Portuguese players at APOP Kinyras FC. In May 2010 after two solid seasons (22 league goals in his first full campaign, competition best), he stayed in the country, signing with cup winners Apollon Limassol.[1]
Although Portuguese-born, Semedo opted to represent Cape Verde internationally, starting in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying stage.
